Waukesha County Sheriff's Department Seeking Accreditation

Public is invited to comment about the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department's ability to meet accreditation standards.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department is going through a rigorous accreditation process and assessors from Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group is examining the department’s policy and procedures, management, operation, and support service, Sheriff Daniel Trawicki announced Friday.

“Verification by the team that the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department meets the Board’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence,” states a news release from Trawicki.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department has to comply with established standards in order to gain accredited status, Trawicki said in the release.

The community and sheriff’s department employees are invited to comment about the department’s accreditation request at 5 p.m. May 22 in the training room at 515 W. Moreland Blvd. in Waukesha. For people wishing to comment but can’t make the information session, comments will be taken between noon and 4 p.m. May 22 via telephone at 262-548-7145.

Comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with WILEAG’s standards.  A copy of the standards is available at the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department 515 W Moreland Blvd, Waukesha, WI 53188.

The Waukesha Police Department went through the accreditation process in 2010 and 2011 and was unanimously given the accreditation status.
