Two officers were hurt Tuesday evening in Waukesha amid the arrest of a shoplifting suspect who showed up at the station, police said.
WAUKESHA, WI — Two Waukesha police officers were injured Tuesday evening when they arrested a man who turned out to be a shoplifting suspect after he came into the station to report a complaint against his neighbor, according to a news release from police.
Officers met with the man around 7:47 p.m. in the department's lobby to hear a complaint but as they were speaking, police figured out he was a suspect in an earlier retail theft, the news release said. Police then tried to arrest the man but he "actively resisted arrest" in the lobby, police said.
The suspect broke free and ran out of the station's front doors where officers again tried to arrest him on the front lawn, police said. The suspect started assaulting the officers and at one point elbowed one in the face and punched another in the head, according to police.
