Building In Waukesha An 'Imminent Threat' For Collapse: Police

Residents at Horizon West Condominium in Waukesha were ordered to evacuate on Thursday night.

WAUKESHA, WI— The Waukesha Fire Department ordered the evacuation of a condominium and surrounding properties Thursday evening, citing an "imminent threat of collapse due to compromised conditions of existing structural columns," according to a city news release.

Horizon West Condominium located at 315 N. West Avenue was ordered to evacuate because of deteriorating structural conditions at the building, the release said.

"The moment we became aware of these issues this evening, we put an evacuation plan into action," the release said.

The building has 48 units, and all families are currently being evacuated by police and fire
personnel who are going door to door, the release said.

Salvation Army of Waukesha is assisting families with immediate housing needs.

Due to the possible collapse, neighboring properties located at 323 N. West Avenue and 307 N. West Avenue are also being evacuated.

"We understand the impact this has on the families that are being affected by this decision, but the public safety is of the utmost importance," the release said.
