County Supervisor Mitchell Not Seeking Re-election

WAUKESHA, WI — Bill Mitchell, a Waukesha County Supervisor who is recovering from injuries from walking in the Waukesha Christmas parade on Nov. 21, announced he would not seek another term.

He was appointed to the County Board in 2003 and re-elected in 2004 and 2006. He was again appointed to the County Board in 2014 and re-elected in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

Mitchell released a statement which said the time to do the job correctly would be difficult with his other commitment and future plans.

"I will miss my fellow county board supervisors. You work hard to find solutions to problems in a fiscally responsible way with respect for staff and the public. You are dedicated public servants. Any of my accomplishments are our accomplishments.

I am most proud of serving my continuants to resolve their complaints and facilitate their access to answers and people at the county. I am humbled and honored with the trust you have placed in me," Mitchell said in a statement.

Mitchell was walking in the parade with the Catholic Community of Waukesha when he was struck by an SUV that had broken through barricades into the parade, according to a GoFundMe set up for Mitchell.

He has eight fractured ribs, a broken finger and bruising, the GoFundMe said.

Dave Zimmerman and Duane Paulson, Waukesha County Supervisors both announced in November they would not seek another bid.

Kathleen Cummings, former alderman and county supervisor abruptly resigned as a Waukesha County Supervisor and alderman after serving for over 20 years. She was charged with seven felonies after investigators found she was using two different addresses, according to online court documents and a criminal complaint.
