Divers Look To Recover Man Who Fell From Kayak Into Waukesha Co. Lake

Two children were rescued after a kayak flipped on a lake in Summit Tuesday, but an adult with them failed to resurface, officials said.

SUMMIT, WI — Divers were set to continue recovery efforts into Wednesday after a man fell off a kayak on Nemahbin Lake in Summit and failed to resurface, according to a statement released by the Western Lakes Fire Department.

The report of a drowning came in shortly after 6 p.m., the fire department said, sparking a response that included boats with sonar plus divers and drones from various local and state agencies. The man was on a kayak with two children when the boat flipped, sending all three into the lake, the fire department said.

Both children were able to grab onto the kayak and call for help but the man did not come back up from the water, the fire department said.

Efforts to rescue the man continued into Tuesday evening around 10:30 p.m. but have since transitioned into recovery efforts led by divers from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, officials said. Recovery was set to continue into Wednesday.
