WAUKESHA, WI — La Casa de Esperanza, a Waukesha-based nonprofit with an emphasis on the Latino population, announced that Shari Campbell was named president and CEO.

“Shari Campbell is the right person at the right time for the top position at La Casa de Esperanza,” said Rudy Gutierrez, chairperson of the La Casa board and a small business sales manager at U.S. Bank.

La Casa undertook a national search to fill the opening created when Anselmo Villarreal, the longtime president and CEO, left in March.

The board’s search committee and the full board of directors were unanimous in their decision to select Campbell, the organization said in a news release.

Campbell worked at La Casa for 21 years and was chief operating officer before serving as interim CEO after Villarreal left.

Villarreal, who was part of the search committee, praised Campbell for her knowledge of the La Casa community and its programs and said that he was confident she will continue to do a great job, the organization said in its release.

Campbell said she was honored to lead La Casa and that the agency has a strong and experienced team of senior leaders to help the organization achieve success.

“I am grateful for the trust the Board has put in me, and I look forward to the future with optimism,” added Campbell in a statement. “A good deal of that optimism is based on knowing that La Casa already has a great senior leadership team in place, and I look forward to continuing to work with them. The past year has been challenging for everyone, and La Casa could not continue to be successful without having this strong team in place.”
