The 50-year-old man who caused a campus-wide lockdown at Carroll University after he was walking across campus with an airsoft gun that resembles a rifle was cited for disorderly conduct, Capt. Ron Oremus told Patch on Wednesday.

The fine for a municipal citation of disorderly conduct is $303, according to Oremus. He will not face criminal charges.

Oremus identified the man as Michael Wiedemann.

"He said he found the gun in a garbage and was walking back to his apartment," Oremus said in an email.

Wiedemann planned to sell the airsoft gun he found in the trash, according to Today's TMJ4, and didn't intend to create a lockdown at the university.

It'll never happen again," he told the Milwaukee TV station. "It was a dumb mistake on my dumb part and I'll never do it again."

The man was released from police custody Tuesday evening when police concluded the investigation. Students at Carroll University had seen the man walking on campus with the non-lethal gun and contacted campus security, who in turn contacted police.

Lockdowns were also enacted at local public schools, including nearby Central Middle School. The man was taken into custody without incident at his apartment after the large police response.
