National Drug Take Back Day In WI: Drop Offs At Meijer, Pick 'N Save

Health officials and pharmacists will collect tons of unused over-the-counter medicines at locations across Wisconsin.

WISCONSIN — Looking to get rid of old and unused capsules, inhalers and pills that may be sitting in your medicine cabinet? Health officials and pharmacies across Wisconsin will take old over-the-counter medication for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day at multiple places on Saturday.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department announced it would host two collection sites: one at Pewaukee City Hall, W240 N3065 Pewaukee Road, and the other at the Pick 'N Save at Sussex, N65 W24838 Main St. Both sites are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Two retailers — Pick 'N Save and Meijer — both announced that they will also host drug take-backs on Saturday. Pharmacists at Meijer expect to collect up to three tons of discarded prescription drugs, the company said in a statement.

Pick 'N Save will host collection events at the Oak Creek Mega Mall, 8770 S. Howell Ave., in Oak Creek and at 900 E. Riverview Expressway in Wisconsin Rapids, the retailer said in a statement. Both sites are open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Furthermore, Meijer will have kiosks in its stores for people to dispose of items like opioids, controlled substances and over-the-counter drugs during regular pharmacy hours, no questions asked, the company said in a statement.

On top of that, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services will have take-back sites all over Wisconsin on Saturday. Here's a spreadsheet map of all drug collection sites for Spring 2022 Drug Take-Back Day.

  • Creams
  • Inhalers
  • Non-aerosol sprays
  • Ointments
  • Pills
  • Patches
  • Vials
  • Pet medication
  • Vape pens with no batteries
  • Other types of e-cigarettes with no batteries
