Parade Memorial Commission Will Update Grede Park Location

WAUKESHA, WI — Community members are invited to attend the next Parade Memorial Commission at City Hall on Tuesday, the City of Waukesha announced.

City officials will hear public comments, give updates on the Grede Park location and consider a downtown location for the parade tragedy memorial, according to the Parade Memorial Commission agenda.

Commission members will meet at 6 p.m., according to the agenda.

The city is looking to build a permanent parade memorial after a man was accused of driving his SUV through a crowd and killing six people at a Christmas parade in November 2021.

The commission could decide to create a subcommittee to decide on design elements for the memorial, the agenda said. Committee members would also discuss how the city will fund the memorial.

The city announced on Friday that it would hold all future parades on one route and use a mobile barrier system to stop cars from entering events.

The commission decided to build the permanent parade memorial in Grede Park on March 31, WISN-12 reported. A dancer who was injured in the attack said using the park for a memorial was "going to be amazing."
