WAUKESHA, WI — Six people were injured after an explosion and a fire at a construction company in Waukesha County on Thursday morning, according to multiple reports.

The warehouse building collapsed and a metal roof trapped combustible materials underneath, Haerters said. The fire is contained to one building, but it would take fire crews around eight hours to extinguish.
Residents within a mile radius of the construction building were told to shelter in place due to smoke, Haerter added. There weren't any hazardous materials in the fire.

Nearly 30 tankers helped fight the fire and made long trips for water as hydrants were sparse, officials said. The Kettle Moraine Fire District, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Wisconsin Fire Marshal would investigate.
Over 200 students from Eagle Elementary School, a quarter mile away, were sent home, The Associated Press reported. Students and workers would be able to return Friday, officials said.
Dark smoke appeared over treetops at a park near the business, stream footage showed.
Multiple agencies including the Kettle Moraine Fire District, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the Village of Eagle Police Department responded to the fire.
