WAUKESHA, WI — The Waukesha JanBoree is set to return on Friday with activities and experiences ranging from a survival skills camp and a fireworks show, to ice sculpture demonstrations, toboggan rides and much more, according to the festival's website.

The city's winter festival lasts 10 days and takes place at locations across the city including Lowell Park, Frame Park and other spaces around the area. Lowell Park is set to feature a heated tent and drinks from Raised Grain Brewing Company for a beer garden on Friday and Saturday.

Some events on the schedule require advanced registration, such as the Yukon Slide and indoor ice skating. The schedule is split up into opening weekend events, weekday events and closing events.

While the JanBoree's opening weekend will consist of fireworks and other classic experiences, weekday events will offer a range of activities. Among the offerings are a scavenger hunt that makes use of an app, hikes for people young and old and the walk of lights in downtown.

The closing weekend will feature a fishing clinic, an Alaskan Malamute weight-pull event, the Frosty 5K and more.

Eventually, the winter festival will be capped off with an afternoon Wisconsin Philharmonic performance of Saint Saen's Carnival of the Animals at St. Luke's Lutheran Church at 300 Carrol Street. The "whimsical performance" will make use of animals, poetry in English and Spanish, and music. Part of the event features an instrument petting zoo.
