Waukesha Resident Wakes To Fire, Helps Evacuate Apartment

Authorities say an apartment fire on Kensington Drive could have been more serious, had it not been for the quick actions of a resident.

WAUKESHA, WI — Authorities in Waukesha say an apartment resident on Kensington Drive managed to alert their apartment neighbors and evacuate the building after a fire broke out early Friday morning.

According to the Waukesha Fire Department, first responders were called to an apartment on the 1800 block of Kensington Drive just after 3 a.m. Friday on a report of a fire.

Authorities say fire crews quickly extinguished a small fire in the kitchen. Damage is estimated at $25,000 and the apartment's lone resident was displaced after the apartment was ruled uninhabitable.

Fire officials say they're working to determine the cause of the fire, but that it does not appear to be suspicious.

There were no injuries reported. Authorities say the apartment had working smoke detectors which warned the apartment resident to the fire.
