Wauwatosa Fire Displaces 7 Families

The American Red Cross of Wisconsin is helping the families.

WAUWATOSA, WI— Seven Wauwatosa families have been displaced by an early Thursday morning fire, according to the American Red Cross of Wisconsin.

The agency responded to the fire at 4:10 a.m. in the 4300 block of North 94th Street.

Justin Kern, American Red Cross Communications Officer, told Patch the agency is "connecting with seven families to see their needs and next steps after a fire early this morning."

Wauwatosa Fire Department said in a press release a tenant from an apartment was awakened by a smoke detector and noticed smoke.

The release said crews were met with moderate fire and smoke coming from a first-floor apartment of an eight-unit apartment complex. Tenants from all eight units escaped without injury. The fire was contained to one apartment.

The fire department along with Milwaukee Fire Department, placed the fire under control in less than 25 minutes, the release said.

The American Red Cross along with WE energies was called for assistance.

The exact cause of the fire is undetermined but appears to have started in a bedroom. The fire
investigation has been closed by the Wauwatosa Fire Marshall. Crews will be in the neighborhood today distributing smoke detectors and providing fire safety tips, the release said.
