She believed she memorized his license plate and wrote it down when she got home, but police could not find the number associated with any vehicle.

She could only describe the driver as a heavyset white man, she thought in his 30s, and his vehicle was a large, blue, boxy SUV or minivan.

An alert police officer noted the report and recalled that he had investigated a case of indecent exposure on July 30 and had arrested the driver of a blue Acura SUV. The same man was also suspected in an incident on July 23.

He cross-referenced the license numbers and found that the woman who reported the incident Thursday on Wright Street had given a registration number that was just one similar letter different, a “D” instead of a “B,” compared to that of the man he arrested in July. That license belongs to the mother of the suspect, who is a 20-year-old Wauwatosa man.

Police went to the man's workplace and were told that he was off for the week. They were still seeking him for questioning at last report.
