Fitzgerald Projected Winner in U.S. House Race For WI 5
State Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald faced Cliff DeTemple for the Republican nomination in Wisconsin's fifth Congressional District.
MILWAUKEE COUNTY— State senate leader Scott Fitzgerald has won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Wisconsin's 5th congressional district, the Associated Press projects.
Fitzgerald has 43,382 votes and his opponent, Clifford DeTemple has 12,670 votes with 84% reporting (297 of 353 precincts).
Incumbent Republican Jim Sensenbrenner, who was first elected in 1978, was not seeking re-election. The district includes Jefferson and Washington counties and parts of Dodge, Milwaukee, Walworth, and Waukesha counties.

The Democratic primary candidate is Tom Palzewicz. Fitzgerald will now face Palzewicz in November.
He was first elected to the Wisconsin State Senate in 1994, according to his campaign website.

In 2011, Fitzgerald led the fight to pass Wisconsin’s Act 10 union reform law. As Senate Majority Leader and head of the Senate campaign operation, Fitzgerald successfully fought off seven recall elections—including his own 13th District—and re-took the Senate majority in 2012, the website said.
Fitzgerald led and passed dozens of Conservative reforms through the Senate, including:
- Right to Work
- $13 Billion in Tax Relief
- Property Tax Freeze
- Partial-Birth Abortion Ban
- John Doe Reform
- Defunding Planned Parenthood
- Tuition Freeze at UW
DeTemple has over 18 years of business experience as the owner of Turning Point Systems Group in Milwaukee. With over 33 years in the military reserve, Cliff described himself as a passionate Eagle Scout, a community supporter and counselor to scouting programs throughout the Midwest. Cliff's focus is to bring back integrity to the political system and set term limits on Congress, according to his campaign Facebook page.
