GLENDALE, WI — A portion of a parking garage at Bayshore Mall collapsed Thursday and crushed two vehicles, but no people were injured, according to authorities.

First responders rushed to the scene shortly after noon, and found the third floor of the garage had collapsed through the second floor and down to the first in the area of the parking ramp, authorities said. Two vehicles were “significantly crushed,” according to a news release from North Shore Fire/Rescue, but their owners were safe.

“The community is asked to remain away from the affected structure while operations continue for their safety and the safety of the crews who remain on scene,” the news release said.

The collapse site included structural elements of the garage as well as heavy, wet snow that had fallen the night before, authorities said. Large commercial heaters were brought in to melt the snow overnight with the goal of exposing the affected vehicles and structural components Friday, according to authorities.

Guests and employees who park on the second and third floor of the structure will be unable to access their vehicles in the meantime, according to Public Relations Account Executive Samantha Henschel for Bayshore.

Aerial footage by WISN12 News showed a mass of snow and concrete near a hole in the structure in the area of Silver Spring Drive and Port Washington Road.

Roads were closed and traffic was diverted, according to TMJ4.

In addition to North Shore Fire/Rescue, emergency perseonnel from Milwaukee and Glendale agencies assisted in the response, as did Bayshore security and leadership, as well as private construction and engineering experts.
