Duke Pride Roundup: Gymnasts Take Conference Championship; Freshman Diver Wins State
Wrestling team finishes third at sectionals and sends a record four qualifiers to the state tournament Thursday.
Here is this week's Duke Pride roundup of athletics and activities from Whitefish Bay High School, courtesy of Athletic Director John Gustavson:
WRESTLING
Congratulations to the wrestling team on their 3rd place finish at the Sectionals last Saturday at Arrowhead. TheΒ squad beat out the 5 other conference teams in the Sectional. Sectional champions were Joey DaveyΒ and Rashadeem Gray. Max Carlin and Nick Levings also qualified for the State Tournament with 2nd placeΒ finishes. The four qualifiers are the most Whitefish Bay has ever qualified for the State Tournament. TheΒ wrestlers will begin competition at the Kohl Center in Madison Thursday afternoon. GYMNASTICS
The squad captured the North Shore Conference Championship last Friday in the Memorial Gym. The team scored an all-time school record high of 143.975 points to beat Homestead by 1.7 points. Reaching the podium for the Dukes were Maggie Anderson(1st All-Around/1st Floor/2nd Beam/2nd Vault/2nd Bars), Sofie Yang(3rd Beam, 6th Bars), and Kelly Danek(6th Beam/5th All-Around). The team will host the Sectional Meet in the Memorial Gym this Friday starting at 4:30.

BOYS SWIMMING
Congratulations to freshman Joe Kaszuboski who is the new state champion in diving. He won the State Meet last Friday in Madison with a score of 431.20 points, nearly 60 points ahead of his nearest competitor. The swim team finished in 12th place at the meet. Swimming for Bay at State were: Noah Oldson, Henry Smith, James Colton, Henry Bourgeois and Ethan Nikolau. See all results here.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The team knocked off top-ten ranked Homestead at home last Friday by a score of 45-31 to avenge a loss earlier in the season. The win earned the team the #10 state ranking in the latest rankings for D2. With a win at Nicolet on Thursday night, the team has a great chance of finishing tied for 2nd place in the conference behind undefeated and #1 ranked Germantown. South Milwaukee will visit Bay tonight(Monday) for a non-conference game. Whitefish Bay is the #3 seed in the upcoming WIAA tournament which will start next week. The bracket is available here.Β
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The team has two great games on the schedule for this week. The Dukes, currently state ranked #8 in D2, will travel to Domincan for a 7:30 game on Tuesday versus the state ranked #2 team in D3. On Friday, the conference champion will be determinedΒ as the state ranked #3 team in D1, Nicolet, visits Bay for a 7:30 game. If Bay wins, they will share the championship with Nicolet and Grafton, the state ranked #4 team in D2.
MAKE-A-WISH CAMEO IN DANCE ROUTINE
Last Friday night, Make-A-Wish candidate Brittney visited Bay and danced at half-time with senior girls Maggie Anderson, Abby Starker, Emily Garcia, Ali Stewart and Lindsey Agnew. See the video gameΒ here.
