Duke Pride Roundup: Teams Go On the Road

Here is this week's Duke Pride Roundup of athletics and activities at Whitefish Bay High School, courtesy of Athletic Director John Gustavson:

BASKETBALL: The teams continued their winning ways last week as both squads defeated both Cedarburg and Milwaukee Lutheran. The teams play in a boys-girls doubleheader at Port Washington on Tuesday night. The boys tip off at 5:45 p.m. and the girls follow at 7:30. The doubleheader format will be repeated on Feb. 10 at Whitefish Bay with the inaugural inductees of the Whitefish Bay Athletic Hall of Fame being introduced between games. Additionally, the girls will host West Allis Hale this Thursday and Wauwatosa East next Thursday with both games starting at 7:30.

BOYS SWIMMING/WRESTLING/GYMNASTICS: All three squads will compete on the road over the next two weeks. Gymnastics is at Menomonee Falls this Wednesday at 6:30, the swim team competes in an invitational on Dec. 29 at Homestead starting at 10 a.m. while the wrestlers head to Oshkosh for a tournament on Dec. 29-30.

HOCKEY: The hockey team will battle non-conference opponent Brookfield this Wednesday night at the MSOE Kern Center starting at 6:15 with the JV game and the varsity game to follow. The team will participate in a tournament with games on Dec. 23, 26 and 28.

INSURANCE REMINDER: As stated in the Athletic Code, WIAA Policy and Athletic Insurance Statement signature form which all parents/guardians sign before participating in sports, no insurance is provided by the school district for the treatment of athletic injuries.

The statement reads: “I understand that the Whitefish Bay School District will make available to students the opportunity to purchase, on a voluntary basis, Student Group and Athletic Accident Insurance. I further understand the School District does not carry medical expense insurance for the benefit of any student who may be injured while participating in athletics and that the School District assumes no responsibility for such medical expense. I further understand that a student who does not have athletic insurance coverage will not be allowed to participate in interscholastic sports unless this statement is signed and filed with the School District.”

There is voluntary insurance available for purchase. Also, for catastrophic injuries, the WIAA does provide no-cost insurance with a deductible of $25,000.
