Explosion And Fire Damages Glendale Home, 1 Person Injured

A home just across the river from Bayshore Mall was damaged by a possible explosion Sunday afternoon, leaving one injured, authorities said.

GLENDALE, WI — One person suffered significant burns in an apparent house explosion and fire Sunday afternoon near Sievers Place and River Forest Drive in Glendale, according to a news release from North Shore Fire Rescue.

Multiple callers had said they heard an explosion in the area. Firefighters arrived at the scene, located just west across the Milwaukee River from Bayshore Mall, around 3 p.m. The house was on fire at that point, and was significantly damaged from the explosion, the fire department said.

The person who was injured was outside of the home when authorities arrived. They were brought to Ascension Columbia St. Mary's in Milwaukee, the fire department said.

Firefighters set up hose lines to extinguish the main fire and protect homes nearby. One home, directly to the north, also sustained minor damage.

Glendale police and North Shore Fire Rescue are still investigating what could have caused the fire. One firefighter suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene and returned to duty.
