WHITEFISH BAY, WI — Masks are again required in Whitefish Bay schools as of Monday after community COVID-19 levels in Milwaukee County increased to a ranking of high, according to a letter the district sent to families on Friday.

The county's "high" COVID-19 ranking from the CDC is just one criterion the district said it uses to guide when masks are required or not. Another criterion mandating masks is if a school's positivity rate raises above 3 percent, but no school has reached that level, according to the district's COVID-19 dashboard. The latest data from the district's COVID-19 dashboard indicates there were 20 positive cases district-wide as of Monday.

The district said it will revisit levels on Friday to determine whether or not masks will continue to be required after May 31.

The CDC's ranking for Milwaukee County as "high" comes with a recommendation to wear a mask indoors in public.

The district also briefly re-instated a mask mandate in late April after the local case burden rose.
