UPDATE: Power Has Been Restored in Most of North Shore

The thunderstorms that swept through the area knocked out power to more than 1,000 homes and businesses in the North Shore early Monday morning but by 9:30 a.m. most electricity had been restored.

We Energies spokesman Barry McNulty said the strong winds and lightning caused the power outages beginning after 6 a.m. As of 7:30 a.m., there were 564 We Energies customers without power in Whitefish Bay, 355 in Brown Deer, 76 in Bayside, 66 in Shorewood and 12 in Fox Point.

Two hours later, however, less than two dozen outages were reported in Whitefish Bay. And there was just one customer without power in Bayside and one in Brown Deer.

While power has been restored to most homes in Shorewood, police have set up four-way stops at intersections where traffic lights are out. The intersection of East Kenmore Place and North Oakland Avenue and where East Capitol Drive intersects with North Murray Avenue and North Downer Avenue remains without power.

However, there were still 24,000 We Energies customers without power throughout southeastern Wisconsin, about 11,000 in Kenosha County alone.
