National Donut Day Means a Free Donut at Dunkin' Donuts Friday
The Whitefish Bay store, which opened earlier this year, is participating in the national promotion.

Even though the first day of June is expected to feel more like mid-March, Friday's still going to be a good day.

Anthony LeTourneau, general manager of the Whitefish Bay store, said the store is doubling normal output Friday to about 140 dozen donuts for the event. One caveat is that you must purchase a beverage to get your free donut.

The national day itself, always celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
The Salvation Army this year is teaming up with baking company Entenmann's to help celebrate National Donut Day; Entenmann's will donate proceeds from sales and offer customers a chance to win free donuts for a year, by entering a contest on its Facebook page. Entenmann's donuts can be found at area grocery stores.
