Police Report: Smashed Pumpkins at United Methodist

The Smashing Pumpkins played the Riverside Theater Thursday, but there was also a disheartening report of pumpkins smashed here in Whitefish Bay this past weekend.

About 40 pumpkins were reportedly smashed outside of Saturday night. The church is selling the pumpkins as a missions fundraiser through the end of the month. The smashed pumpkins blocked Silver Spring Drive in front of the church, and police responded at 5 a.m. Sunday to clear the roadway.

The previous night, police stopped a 20-year old man chasing down a county bus at 10 p.m. with a pumpkin in tow. The man admitted to stealing the pumpkin from , but the store manager told police he did not want to press charges.

Car hits pedestrian

• A 66-year-old Whitefish Bay woman was struck by a car in the crosswalk on Marlborough Drive and Henry Clay Street at 6:47 p.m. Thursday night. The woman complained of neck pain, and North Shore Fire Department paramedics responded and medically cleared the woman. The driver, a 73-year-old Whitefish Bay woman, was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. 

Thefts from cars

• A vehicle was entered sometime between 10 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the 4600 block of North Idlewild Avenue. The owner’s manual was removed but was later found on Courtland Place.

• A GPS device was stolen from the glove compartment of an unlocked car in the 4800 block of North Elkhart Avenue sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and noon Sunday.

Drunk driving

• A 24-year-old Whitefish Bay man was arrested in the 200 block of West Henry Clay Street for drunken driving  at 2:44 a.m. Saturday morning after failing to stop at a stop sign at Henry Clay Street and North Lydell Avenue.

 
Confused cab call

• A 41-year-old Mequon man dialed 911 looking for a cab at 4 a.m. Sunday. Police responded to the man at the corner of East Henry Clay Street and North Elkhart Avenue and educated the man on the appropriate use of dialing 911.

 
Power outage

• A resident on the 5000 block of Berkeley Boulevard reported a power pole made an exploding noise and the power went out around 6 p.m. Wednesday. We Energies responded to repair the pole.
