Recruiter Will Discuss Village Manager Search

Board will also discuss emerald ash borer plan, purchase of new squad car at Wednesday night's meeting.

New information about the next village manager will be presented to the Village Board at its Wednesday night meeting.

Former Village Manager James Grassman retired two weeks ago, and Assistant Village Manager Matt Schuenke holds the job on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is found.

A consultant from Public Administration Associates will be on hand to discuss the process of recruiting a new village manager. The Village Board also is expected to take action on a resolution commending Grassman's eight years of service.

Last year, the village contracted with Wachtel Tree Service to create a plan to eliminate the tree disease, which has been detected as nearby as Oak Creek.

The plan is set to kick into motion this year, and consultants recommend removing and replacing 400 ash trees, which would reduce the village's ash tree population by 10 percent. The plan costs $223,824, but since the village's annual ash tree removal budget set at $30,000 , it would have to borrow about $194,000 to implement the plan. The board will also be presented with another, less aggressive option to spread the plan out over two years, cutting the annual borrowing amount to $97,000 per year.

Also on Wednesday, the board will consider the purchase of a new Chevrolet Impala police squad car, as one of the squad cars is scheduled for replacement this year. The vehicle would be purchased from the lowest bidder, Ewald Automotive Group. The total cost, including a data system and video camera, totals $31,320, coming in under the budgeted amount of $35,824.
