Run The Bay Brings in Nearly $10,000

Roughly 450 people came out for the 5k run/walk event on May 21.

Run the Bay was not only a family-friendly event that brought the community together, but it also brought in nearly $10,000 in new technology funding for Whitefish Bay schools.

Event co-chair Jill Patty said attracted 450 registered participants and nearly $10,000 in proceeds, nearly double the $5,000 in proceeds that were brought in at the last fun run event in 2009.

"It was a good day all around, and the weather held out for us," Patty said. "The childrens run went really well, and they got little medals."

All proceeds from the 5k run/walk event go directly to Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation, which distributes the money to the four public schools in the Whitefish Bay School District for the purchase of 21st century technology.

After launching in 2006, the event has been held in May every year until 2009, when it was held in October. The biggest, most profitable run was the first Run the Bay, which brought in about 1,000 participants.

"It was tied into the Bay Ball and the high school anniversary, so a lot of alumni came in for it," Patty said.

Patty said they plan to continue the event next year.
