Smucker's Peanut Butter is Safe at Sendik's
Nationwide recall pulls Smucker's Natural Chunky peanut butter due to salmonella concerns, but the same product available at Sendik's is safe, according to company officials.

You may have heard that Smuckerβs Natural Chunky Peanut Butter is being recalled, but the product is still safe to buy at , according to the Whitefish Bay-based grocer.
The Ohio-based J.M. Smucker Co. is recalling the product, due to possible salmonella contamination, according to a report in Fox News.
The same product, Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter Chunky, is available at Sendik's, but Nick Bandoch of Sendikβs said it did not receive any product that was part of the recall.

That means the peanut is not on the shelves at the store at 500 E. Silver Spring Drive in Whitefish Bay, or in other Balistreri Sendik's stores, including those in Mequon, Wauwatosa and Elm Grove.
When Smuckers issued the product recall, Bandoch said Sendik's followed product recall procedures and was able to determine through the documentation which lot numbers were affected, and Sendik's did not receive that lot number.

The recalled jars have a "best if used by" date of Aug. 3, 2012, and Aug. 4, 2012, plus the production codes 1307004 and 1308004, according to the article.
Most persons infected with salmonella bacteria develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most people recover within a week, but some may require hospitalization; in rare cases, the infection can be fatal.
Smucker says no illnesses have been reported, according to Fox News.
The product was distributed in: Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
