Wave of Burglaries, Thefts Continues in the Bay

Five more incidents reported since Tuesday.

Whitefish Bay police are working with neighboring departments and asking residents to be extra alert as the village continues to be hit with a flurry of burglaries and thefts.

More than a dozen burglaries and thefts, and five vehicle break-ins or attempted break-ins have been reported in December. In the last two days alone, there have been five reports of burglaries and thefts.

Whitefish Bay, along with Shorewood and Glendale, has seen an increase in burglaries and thefts . Whitefish Bay police are asking residents to report suspicious activities in their neighborhood.

On Tuesday evening, an Xbox, jewelry, cash and other items were stolen from a home in the 5200 block of North Bay Ridge sometime between 6:10 and 7:15 p.m. Entry was gained by forcing open a side door.

The next morning, a 42-inch flat-screen television, game console and laptop computer were stolen from a home on the 5100 block of North Lydell Avenue. The burglar entered through an unlocked rear door sometime between 1:15 and 9 a.m.

Also on Wednesday, a purse was stolen from a residence in the 4900 block of North Marlborough Drive at about 5 a.m. The purse was recovered, but credit cards were missing.

Someone stole a set of house and car keys that had been accidentally left in the door of a residence in the 5200 block of North Shoreland Avenue sometime between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

A vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the 5100 block of North Shoreland Avenue sometime between 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7:40 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was recovered at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in Milwaukee.

Earlier Wednesday morning, at 6:30 a.m., a man was spotted in the vehicle as he attempted to break into another vehicle on the 5100 block of North Bay Ridge Avenue.

Someone apparently attempted to steal another car on the 100 block of East Fairmount Avenue sometime between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The passenger side window was smashed, and the ignition was tampered with.

An unknown person walked up to a rear window of a residence in the 5200 block of North Bay Ridge Avenue sometime between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday, but the person did not enter the house. 

A homeowner on the 100 block of East Belle Avenue also noticed a set of golf clubs was stolen from their unlocked garage sometime between Dec. 23 and Tuesday.

Police in particular are urging residents to keep an eye out for people ringing the doorbell of a home and then moving toward back of the house. Anyone witnessing suspicious activity should call 911 immediately or contact the department's non-emergency number at 414-962-4619.
