Week Ahead: Village Meetings, High School Art Show and Eco-Consciousness

The Village Board will discuss big sewer news Monday night, the Plan Commission will discuss the JCC petition and two new businesses Tuesday night and a Holocaust remembrance event will be held Sunday afternoon.

Here's a look at some of the events in our events calendar this week. If we're missing something, you canΒ add it to the calendar.

Village Board: The Whitefish Bay Village Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday night to hear sewer consultants Donohue and Associates present the results of their , which indicates the village could engineer a plan that would protect most homes from a 500-year storm. Trustees will discuss cost estimates for those sewer fixes at Monday's meeting.

The board will also discuss a turf management plan for 2012, an action plan for in 2012, a street repair program for 2012 and to separate the sanitary sewer basin shared by the two villages.

Creative Self-Expression Show: art students will display their artwork at from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday night. The Great Frame Up professionally frames each work for the show, which is also a judged competition where one winner is selected in each category. The overall best in show will also be sent to the national competition. Although only a few will win, each student will keep their framed work.

Plan Commission: The Whitefish Bay Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the and make a recommendation to the Village Board for future action. Commissioners will also consider conditional use permits from , a self-serve frozen yogurt store, and Rustam Gallery of Fine Rugs, which plans to move into the space currently occupied by. Gallery 505 into the space, which is closing its doors.

: Yom Hashoah, Memorial to the Six Million, Remembrance of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and All Resistance, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the . The keynote speaker is Sam Harris, a survivor and president of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. The event will feature face-to-face small group experiences with Holocaust survivors.

Book and Film Discussion Group: Join former Milwaukee Journal Sentinel film critic Doug Armstrong at the at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the book "True Grit" and its two film adaptations, the first of which starred John Wayne and the second starring Jeff Bridges. Eco-Week: Speaking of eco-friendly events, the Whitefish Bay Business Improvement District is kicking off its first-ever "Eco Week" event. More details about the week-long event can be seen on the BID's website.
