Whitefish Bay House Burglarized; Man Arrested And Charged
Police in Whitefish Bay say they arrested a 22-year-old Milwaukee man who is accused of being one of three people responsible for a burglary

WHITEFISH BAY, WI β Police in Whitefish Bay say they arrested a 22-year-old Milwaukee man who is accused of being one of three people responsible for at least one burglary in Whitefish Bay.
Matthew W. Owens, 22, Milwaukee, has been arrested and charged with felony burglary related to a burglary case on the 2100 block of E. Glendale Ave. between Dec. 9 and 9, 2019. He's being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. He's due next in court on Jan. 24 for a scheduling conference.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a home on the 2100 block of E. Glendale Ave. at just after 10 a.m. on Dec. 9 on a report of a burglary.

When police spoke with the homeowners, they said one of their credit cards was used fraudulently. It wasn't too much later they discovered that someone entered their garage via the service door.
According to the complaint, the burglars rummaged through a car in the garage, then entered the house. Police reported a backpack was stolen from inside the house and a purse from inside the car.

At 3 a.m., an officer on patrol learned about a different burglary that happened on the 1900 block of E. Cumberland Blvd. The officer reported seeing two or three suspicious people run from police through the neighborhood.
According to the criminal complaint, police set up a perimeter, but were unable to track down the suspects.
Investigators say an officer on patrol saw a suspicious vehicle, and pulled over the driver. Police said the passenger was identified as one of the three people who fled on Cumberland at about 3 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint, the passenger said that he and two friends committed a burglary earlier that morning. When police showed him a picture of the backpack that had been stolen from the home on Glendale Ave., investigators said he recognized the stolen item as the one that he and his friends took earlier that morning.
According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee police tracked down one of the other burglary suspects at a Greyhound Bus depot in Milwaukee the following day. Authorities say Owens was arrested, and police found that he had 10 credit cards and store rewards cards that belonged to the residents at the home on Glendale Ave. that had been burglarized.
