WNS Storm Clinches First-Ever Conference Title

The Storm's first conference title comes after a big win over Cedarburg Tuesday and a 6-0 win over Germantown Thursday night.

With a 6-0 win over Germantown, the WNS Storm hockey team won its first-ever North Shore Conference crown.

Storm Coach Maco Balkovec said the team came out of the gates strong with a perfectly executed faceoff play, with senior Djordje Torbica scoring on a breakout pass from senior Thomas Aiken and senior Andy Keith. Torbica went on to score three more goals, and senior Drew Kneisel scored another two.

"Drew Kneisel has really elevated his game this week to a place that shows what he's capable of," Balkovec said.

Balcovec also said junior goaltender Sean Leahy, who tallied 24 saves last night, continues to play strong for the Storm.

"Sean Leahy is really on and playing like we know he can," Balkovec said. "When he's focused he's really fun to watch."

The WNS Storm is a co-op hockey team made up of athletes from Whitefish Bay, Nicolet and Shorewood high schools. After beating a strong Cedarburg team earlier in the week, the win over Germantown puts the Storm at 17-3-1, with an undefeated 7-0 conference record.

"To win 3 in a row like we have is a lot of fun for the boys," Balkovec said. "I just love going to the rink each day to spend time with these guys and see them show their passion for the game."

Next up: the Storm plays Homestead at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
