Alabama Labor Secretary Honored For Work With Veterans
Alabama Secretary of Labor Fitzgerald Washington was honored in Tuscaloosa last week for his efforts in employment initiatives for veterans

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Alabama Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington was recently honored for his leadership of the agency and for its initiatives focusing on veterans.

The United States Army Central/West Alabama Chapter — consisting of leaders in the Tuscaloosa business community, military dignitaries, family, and friends gathered last week to honor Washington to present him a certificate of appreciation for his efforts.

Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Nicolas Britto said Washington, along with the organization, has worked with the City of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Park and Recreation Authority (PARA), and local veterans to successfully organized two job fairs in Tuscaloosa that attracted 2,300 job applicants and 65 employers.
"Secretary Washington was essential in the formation and creation of the 'Hire Vets' initiative sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, which encourages employers to apply for a designation showing their dedication to hiring veterans," Britto said. "More than 60 Alabama employers now have this prestigious designation. Secretary Washington has been able to accomplish much more than his predecessors. We congratulate Secretary Washington for his professionalism and dedication to the people of Alabama."
