LOS ANGELES, CA — After director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found stabbed to death at their home Sunday night, their son Nick Reiner is awaiting his first court appearance to answer to charges that he murdered his parents.

But Nick Reiner's attorney says that won't happen Tuesday, because his client hasn't been medically cleared to be transported to the courthouse. TMZ reported that he's on suicide watch.

At the party, Nick Reiner and his father got into a "very loud argument," according to the publication.

The New York Post reported that the argument may have been related to Nick Reiner's refusal to go back to rehab.

"They had had an argument at Conan’s holiday party, and Rob had been telling people that they’re scared for Nick and scared that his mental state was deteriorating," a lifelong family friend told The Post.

Sunday afternoon

The couple were found by their 28-year-old daughter, Romy Reiner, on Sunday afternoon, People reported.

They were found with their "throats slit" and police said that the two suffered "lacerations consistent with a knife," TMZ reported.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the home on the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, where they found two people dead, initially identified as a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman.

At some point after police arrived Sunday, actors Billy Crystal and Larry David were seen at the house, neighbors told ABC News.

Crystal and his wife Janice saw the bodies — they arrived to the scene quickly after Romy Reiner called them about the killings, TMZ reported.

The Reiner family confirmed in a statement that the deceased were Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

During a Monday appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Michelle Obama said that she and her husband, former President Barack Obama, had plans to see Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner on the day they were found dead, the New York Times reported.

Sunday: 9:15 p.m.

Nick Reiner was arrested at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Information Center.

He was not at home when his parents were found: He was taken into custody near the University of Southern California, ABC News reported.

The US Marshals Service had said it located and arrested Reiner “without incident” on Sunday, CNN reported.

Monday: 5:04 a.m.

Nick Reiner was booked on suspicion of murder, according to sheriff's records.

He remains held without bail and was moved to Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown LA after his booking, ABC News reported.

Monday: 9 a.m.

At an unrelated news conference, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell briefly mentioned the Reiners' killings.

"We have our Robbery-Homicide Division handling the investigation, they worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner, a suspect in this case," he said.

McDonnell said he could not say much else about the ongoing investigation.

Tuesday morning

The case was expected to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for consideration of formal charges.

Nick Reiner's attorney told CNN that his client will not be making a court appearance Tuesday because he has not yet been medically cleared to be transported from jail to the courthouse.

TMZ reported that Reiner is on suicide watch in jail.

Tuesday: 1 p.m.

A news conference was slated for 1 p.m. at the Los Angeles Hall of Justice. Both Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman and Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell are expected to speak.
