- A domestic dispute outside the Birmingham Family Dollar ended with one person being shot. Yesterday morning, North Precinct officers were dispatched to respond to the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male wounded. Officers discovered the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, and a female was taken into custody. This investigation is ongoing. (AL.com)
- The city of Birmingham is holding a celebration of Hanukkah next week. There will be a menorah lighting on Monday, Dec. 19, at 4:30 p.m. in front of Birmingham City Hall. Attendees will enjoy family activities, latkes, and donuts. (City of Birmingham Government)
- The Garage Cafe was sold to a longtime patron. Bob Ryan, also known as “Irish” Bob, bought the Southside bar and restaurant for an undisclosed amount. According to a Facebook post about the change of ownership, “Bob will carry on the tradition of The Garage… its uniqueness, its vibe, and everything we all love about the bar.” (AL.com)
