Lovelady Center expands housing mission with new apartment complex honoring late founder (wbrc.com) — A Birmingham-based nonprofit, The Lovelady Center, has bought a 56-unit apartment complex just three blocks from its campus to house women completing its recovery program. Renamed Brenda’s Courtyard after the late founder, the complex will transition current tenants with financial assistance and deposit returns, while aiming to prevent homelessness and keep future residents close to childcare and support services.

Birmingham police near milestone year with fewer than 100 homicides (wbrc.com) — Birmingham is on pace to finish 2025 with fewer than 100 homicides for the first time in more than a decade, with 85 recorded so far and an 80%+ clearance rate.
