- The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is hosting a food box distribution at the Birmingham Crossplex. On Wednesday, Dec. 14, the distribution will begin at 9:00 a.m. One thousand households will be able to receive a holiday box, including vegetables and a protein. Coca-Cola and Piggly Wiggly partnered with the food bank to supply these much-needed supplies. (WBRC)
- Five local men have been indicted for using illegally obtained USPS keys to steal mail. Khory Deontay Lowe II, 18, and Dejuan Alexander Wallace, 41, were both indicted on one count of possession of stolen mail back in September. Cordarius Deshawn Hutchins, 25, of Birmingham, and Stevie Bernard Cole, 22, of Bessemer, were indicted with unlawful possession of a Postal Service key, possession of stolen mail, and wire fraud in February 2022. Additionally, Rodriquez Kershun Dukes, 25, of Birmingham, was indicted with unlawful possession of a Postal Service key and possession of stolen mail in February 2022. (WAFF)
- The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the Birmingham Housing Authority with a $511,000 grant. The grant is intended to fund hiring and maintaining ROSS Program Service Coordinators to support 500 public housing residents. Residents who are elderly or disabled will especially be supported by those service coordinators. (WBRC)
