Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Youit Jones has been charged with the murder of Nathan Gemeinhart, which occurred back in August. At that time, Gemeinhart's body was located in a burning home on Eufaula Avenue. A Jefferson County grand jury has since indicted Jones for murder and arson. (WBRC)
  2. On Sunday around 9:30 p.m., Jefferson County Firefighters responded to a house fire and were alerted a child remained in the home. After searching room-by-room, the firefighters located the child in a bedroom. In total, the responders had the fire under control in 25 minutes and none of them were injured. (Alabama's News Leader)
  3. Birmingham police officer Brandon Alexander Smith, 30, has been jailed on a domestic violence strangulation charge. According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, department officials were made aware of the incident on Nov. 19. There are no other details about the incident available for the public at this time. (AL.com)
