Mayor-elect Randall Woodfin announced he is forming new citizen-led committees to hone in on two of his administration's top priorities.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Ahead of his first 100 days in office, Mayor-elect Randall Woodfin announced he is forming two new citizen-led committees to hone in on two of his administration's top priorities: educational and economic development.
Woodfin, who officially enters his term on Nov. 28, made the announcement at his Monday morning press conference at the Alabama Workforce Training Center. The former Birmingham Board of Education president named Perry Ward, president of Lawson State Community College, and Fred McCallum, former AT&T president, as co-chairs for the education and workforce development committee. Tracey Morant Adams, executive vice president at Renasant Bank, and Josh Carpenter, UAB director of external affairs, will head the economic development and entrepreneurship committee.
The education committee will be responsible for developing plans to extend beneficial skills programs for students in all stages of education. The economic development and entrepreneurship committee will work with city and state figures to assist in the continued growth of Birmingham's economy, partnering with Innovation Depot and other groups to provide support for entrepreneurs.
