• Party turns deadly after fight at Monarch Ridge Apartments in east Birmingham (wbrc.com) — Birmingham police are investigating a deadly shooting at Monarch Ridge Apartments in east Birmingham after a party turned violent late Saturday night. Officers say a man was shot during a second fight with his nephew, who was arrested at the scene. The 2900 block of Gallant Drive has seen multiple past shootings, and police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers.

• Victim in Brown U. shooting ID'd as college Republicans VP, Catholic: ‘Faithful bright light' (thecollegefix.com) — A Brown University mass shooting claimed the life of Ella Cook, a young Catholic leader whose home parish was Cathedral Church of the Advent in downtown Birmingham. Parishioners learned of her death during Sunday Mass, as friends and classmates remembered her as a kind, faithful presence on campus. Another student was also killed and nine others were wounded as the investigation continues.
