Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. A Birmingham team of economic development specialists, airport leaders, and government officials is pitching the region's aerospace growth potential at the 2023 Paris Air Show. The team is telling industry decision-makers about growth initiatives at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, the expansion of a high-tech defense company, and the region’s prime location in an effort to build long-term relationships that could lead to recruitment of larger aerospace projects in the greater Birmingham region. (Alabama News Center)
  2. As a finalist in the running for a $50 million grant needed to fund the project, the City of Birmingham is moving forward in the revitalization of the Smithfield community's planning process. Recently, City Council approved rezoning for multiple Smithfield properties to allow for mixed-use zoning if and when the city receives the grant. Plans for the revitalization include resources for existing homeowners in addition to new housing units, mixed-use properties, and a social innovation center. (WIAT - CBS42)
  3. Emmy Squared Pizza will open its first Birmingham location at the end of the month as one of The Summit's newest tenants. The pizza and burger joint at 300 Summit Boulevard, Suite 104 will feature Detroit-style pizzas, the Le Matt Burger, sandwiches, cocktails, and even vegan options.
