- Following a weekend of violence where 11 people were shot, including two who died from their injuries, Birmingham Police leaders are asking the community to step up. They are urging members of the community to engage in healthier options for solving conflict and expressed frustration with how often victims of shootings are innocent bystanders. There were several separate shooting events over the weekend, including a birthday party shooting in Kingston where one person was fatally wounded, and a shooting outside a bar in Lakeview that left four people injured. (WBRC)
- Vulcan Park and Museum will be celebrating its 119th birthday on Sunday, Jun. 4! The public is invited to join the party from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. There will be live performances, local vendors, and plenty of options for food. The Clog Wild Cloggers will perform, and there will be activities for kids such as face painting and moonwalks. (Bham Now)
- Just down the street, the Mountain Brook Police Department hosted a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events class. Officer Megan Thomas discussed the importance of training for active shooter situations since it becomes harder to make quick decisions while under stress. The training went in-depth into the principles of "run, hide, fight," and discussed how to apply them in different situations. The Mountain Brook Police said they do plan to offer more courses in the future and to follow them on Facebook for more information. (CBS 42)
