Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Police in Birmingham discovered the burned body of Jermiera Ivory Fowler after she failed to return home from a Facebook Marketplace meetup. The 31-year-old woman had been last seen on Wednesday afternoon and was found deceased on Thursday. Authorities determined that Fowler had been shot and then set on fire, and while the possibility of the Facebook Marketplace meetup being connected to her death has not been ruled out, additional facts have been uncovered by detectives. No arrests have been made thus far. (WAFF)
  2. A shooting incident in unincorporated Jefferson County, near Bessemer, resulted in one man sustaining life-threatening injuries and another man being arrested. The altercation took place in the late afternoon on Thursday, and responding sheriff's deputies found a 21-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. After deploying search resources, authorities were able to establish contact with the suspect and arrange for his surrender. The suspect, identified as Quandarrious Roberts, was subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a charge of attempted murder. (AL.com)
  3. Central Alabama Pride launched its 45th annual pride celebration by recognizing LGBTQ+ leaders through a special awards ceremony on Jun. 1. The event marked the beginning of a week-long series of festivities aimed at promoting unity and progress within the community. Notable honorees included the CEO of AIDS Alabama, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Representative Neil Rafferty, who was recognized for his outstanding activism in advancing LGBTQ+ rights. The pride parade, a key highlight of the celebration, is set to take place on Jun. 11 with a significant number of participants already registered. (WBRC)
