‘Common Knowledge’ Moore Dated Teens, Says Former Co-Worker: CNN

Teresa Jones, 63, told CNN that she worked alongside Moore as a deputy district attorney for Etowah County, Alabama.

SARASOTA, FL - Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore’s pursuit of teenage girls was “common knowledge” among his colleagues when he worked as a deputy district attorney for Etowah County, Alabama, CNN reports.

In an interview with the network, Teresa Jones, 63, told CNN that she worked alongside Moore when she also was a deputy district attorney for Etowah County from 1982 to 1985. Moore worked as a deputy district attorney in that office from 1977 to 1982.

“It was common knowledge that Roy dated high school girls, everyone we knew thought it was weird,” Jones told CNN. “We wondered why someone his age would hang out at high school football games and the mall … but you really wouldn’t say anything to someone like that.”

Jones now works in Sarasota, Florida as a partner at the Syprett, Meshad, Resnick, Lieb, Dumbaugh, Jones, Krotec & Westheimer, P.A. law firm.

Moore has been accused of molesting a 14-year-old girl, Leigh Corfman, when he was 32 and working in the district attorney’s office, The Washington Post reported. Three other women say Moore pursued them sexually or romantically when they were in their teens, the Post story said.

Asked on Twitter why the girls didn’t step forward, Jones responded: “At that time, in that atmosphere unless the girls came forward with specifics, then no, no charges could have been brought. The Weinstein, Hoffman, etc. revelations have made it far more palatable for women to come forward.”

Moore has denied the allegations and has dismissed the story as “fake news.” At a Veterans Day speech in Gadsden, Alabama, Moore called the allegations “hurtful," adding that the Post story was politically motivated.

Moore faces Democrat Doug Jones in the Dec. 12 special Senate election in Alabama.
