Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. Crumbl Cookies will be expanding in the Birmingham area. The upscale cookie franchise will be opening two new locations in the metro area. The first expansion location is at 100 Colonial Promenade Parkway in the Alabaster Promenade and opened on Nov. 18. The second expansion location is at 260 Rele Street next to tasc Performance; it is unclear when this location will be opening. (AL.com)
  2. The Birmingham Police Department reports one person has died as a result of a Saturday shooting in a southwest Birmingham neighborhood. Jerrod Excell Turner, 30, was shot in the 2800 block of 29th Street S.W. Responding officers located his unresponsive body in the driveway of a vacant home. As of Sunday, the department has not made any arrests in the case. (AL.com)
  3. Birmingham City Schools will be participating in a program designed to improve math scores. The district had 13 schools on the state's failing schools list. The new program is meant to help the schools get off the list. The program costs about $240,000 and will provide teachers with the tools needed to improve math instruction. (WBRC)
