Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- A birthday party in Birmingham ended in gunfire early Sunday morning that left one person dead. Police responded to multiple calls about shots fired shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, police discovered 18-year-old shooting victim Montraevious DeWayne Milton was unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. Investigators say they recovered over 100 shell casings from the scene. There have been no arrests made, and investigators are seeking party attendees for interviews. (AL.com)
- Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission has spaces available in its upcoming Sports Express Camp. Participants will learn how to play several different sports, including kickball, flag football, floor hockey, and more. - Around one in four children in Central Alabama faces food insecurity, according to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. The food bank is working with Birmingham City Schools to make sure children have nutritious meals throughout the summer, and the organization is seeking to partner with other local entities in order to distribute 30,000 meals in Jefferson County. The Summer Meals Program with Birmingham City Schools will kick off on Jun. 14. Across the district, 42 school sites will be serving lunch from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Click here to see a full schedule. (CBS 42)
