Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. The Magic City Summer Festival will no longer be taking place next week as it has been rescheduled for this fall for unknown reasons. The festival was intended to promote Legion Field which has been on a decline with the departure of local sports teams for other stadiums. Currently, there is no set date for the festival this fall but you can stay up-to-date on what is happening with the event by checking out the website. The Magic City Hoop Fest will still be taking place on Jun. 29 at George W. Carver High School. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
  2. The Alabama Department of Correction Law Enforcement Services Division is currently investigating the death of an inmate that was found unresponsive last week at the Birmingham Community Work Release Center. Last Friday, 54-year-old Mashell Brasher Mann was found unresponsive and taken to the UAB Emergency Department where she was also admitted later on, she passed away Wednesday morning. The coroner's office conducted an examination to determine the cause of death to assist in the investigation. (Alabama's News Leader)
  3. The community is invited to Bartow Arena at the University of Alabama on Independence Day for a free outdoor concert celebrating the holiday with a firework presentation following. The annual summer band includes students, faculty members, and alumni of the university as well as musicians in the community who come together to play popular patriotic tunes. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring folding chairs, blankets, picnics, and whatever will bring them comfort during the event, a raffle will also be happening during the show. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the firework show following at 9:00 p.m. (University of Alabama at Birmingham)
