Water Works Truck Struck By Gunfire While Employee On Duty

A Birmingham Water Works utility truck was struck by gunfire Tuesday night while an employee was reading meters.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A Birmingham Water Works vehicle was hit by gunfire Tuesday night while an employee was on a meter route. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 900 Block of 39th Street North, according to an ABC 33/40 report.

The employee was not injured, but the BWWB issued a statement following the incident:

"Birmingham Water Works puts the safety of our employees and customers at top priority and encourages those engaging in the use of firearms to share that sentiment. This situation is currently under investigation."
