Funded by city dollars and post-pandemic grants, the modern facility replaces the 1980 station and is designed with extra room so Calera’s fire services can continue expanding as the community grows.

Crews continue investigation of deadly train derailment in Calera (wbrc.com) — Investigators are still working to understand the deadly train derailment in Calera that killed a 52-year-old railroad worker and left several cars off the tracks near County Road 22. Calera’s fire chief described the challenging response in a wooded area and urged residents to stay cautious around rail crossings. County Road 22’s railroad crossing will close again Monday night for further investigation.

Strong start propels Pelham to win over Calera, 12-0 record (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Calera High’s boys basketball team fell 73-52 on the road to undefeated Pelham, dropping the Eagles to 10-3 on the season. Despite outscoring Pelham in the middle quarters, Calera couldn’t overcome a hot start and huge nights from Pelham’s Morrisette and Childress. The Eagles now look to rebound in a rematch against Gardendale.

4. Joyce Lewis continues legacy of service as president of Montevallo Rot... Now leading the Montevallo Rotary Club, she reflects on decades in law enforcement and education across Montevallo, Columbiana, and Calera, all driven by her promise to give back to her home communities.
