Cook, a student leader with College Republicans, was studying for an exam when gunfire erupted, killing her and another student and injuring nine others as officials and friends share condolences.

DSI Security CEO elected ASIS International president (wtvy.com) — A Dothan-based business leader is stepping onto the global security stage as DSI Security Services CEO Eddie Sorrells has been elected president of ASIS International, the world’s largest security management association. Starting January 1, 2026, he’ll help guide industry standards, education, and innovation worldwide, bringing national attention back to his hometown company and its decades of experience.
   

5. Former mayor, businessman cheers up rehab patients for Christmas (wdhn.com) — Former Dothan mayor and businessman Mike Schmitz spent Monday playing “Santa” at Encompass Health in Dothan, handing out more than 60 Christmas baskets to rehab patients. He’s been visiting the center for about a decade, focusing especially on seniors without nearby family to remind them they’re loved and not forgotten during the holidays.
