• SS United States Reef Project Closes In on Sink Date (gulfshoresnews.com) — Residents in Gulf Shores may soon spot the historic SS United States offshore as it’s towed east to become the world’s largest artificial reef south of Destin–Fort Walton Beach. Okaloosa County has boosted the project budget to just over $10 million, funded by tourism bed taxes and partners, with deployment targeted for February pending inspections and weather.
