Hoover PD Still Seeks Suspect In 2020 Valentine's Day Homicide

A year after Shemethia Tynise Coteat was killed at an apartment complex in Hoover, police still look for answers.

HOOVER, AL — A year has passed since 41-year-old Shemethia Tynise Coteat was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Hoover, and police are still seeking answers in the case.

Coteat died after being shot in the parking lot of the The Park at Wellington and Wakefield apartments on Valentine's Day last year.

"Hoover Police needs your help in bringing her killer to justice. Ms. Coteat was shot four times from behind while she was retrieving items from the back seat of her vehicle," Hoover police said in a statement Monday. "Her killer specifically targeted her for reasons that are still unknown. Witnesses reported seeing a dark colored four-door vehicle speeding away from the scene after the shots were fired."

Hoover police said they have identified a suspect in this case, but need more information before charges can be brought.
